The tank has been filled!
The tanks have been filled with tap water provided by the sink and we have filled it to 4/5 full. The tap water that we filled the tank with contains Chlorine, this chemical is found in most tap water and it is used to kill the bad bacteria in our drinking water. Chlorine must be eliminated before entering your aquarium or it will kill the fish that you place inside the tank.
The top of the Tank
The picture on the left shows the top of the tank and parts will be listed from top to bottom.

2. Double 24" high output T5 fluorescent light grow fixture

Setting up the Clay Pots
Pictured at the left i have set all 13 of the netted pots(black) that are all resting on the table.
The clear container holds the Clay Pellets that will be placed at a two pellet(1") height so we can place the sheet of paper towel. The paper towel will be placed in the bottom of the net pot and positioned across the bed of (1") pellets in order to keep the seeds moist and in place whilst the germination process occurs The end result will be what looks like on the picture on the left. The plant will be dampened with water mist and then we are ready to place the seeds in the netted pots. Once the seeds are placed we will add a single layer or less of clay pellets to the pots to support the growing seedlings and to maintain moisture within the area. We can see in this photo that the system is ready and is in the " Seed Germination " process, which is usually a 1-2 week period in which the seeds emerge from their casings. The light is an essential part of the aquaponics system. This light replaces the Suns energy and allows the plants to grow in a sunless environment. The effort that you have to put into Aquaponics is that you need to turn the light -off/on- to mimic a day and night scenario. |
